I can see why you feel that way. Government jobs used to feel like the ultimate stability ticket, but with everything so shaky lately, it’s hard to feel confident pushing someone you love into that. However, I still like the idea of having my kids involved in real impact projects. I know someone who recently joined a federal agency and loves it: good mentorship, real impact. Maybe it’s less about “avoid it” and more about choosing the right role within the system.

I don't have kids, but I wouldn't advise anyone to take a job working for the government. I realize that's giving in to the know-nothings, as what they want would be intelligent and educated people fearful of working in government. But people have to do what's best for them, and getting involved in government is just too risky these days.

I still think government work is worth it, despite the noise. The politics and hiring freezes are frustrating, but the stability, benefits, and purpose-driven work are hard to beat. My cousin just got in through a Pathways internship, and watching her find her footing reminded me why I stuck with it. It’s not for everyone, but if your kid values mission over hustle culture, it’s still a solid path, just maybe not a fast one.

It is, in fact, quite easy to beat the stability of an environment that is calling people hired as remote into offices with inadequate space, are liquedating agencies, and conducting multiple rounds of RIFs while tryingmtowantoginize and intimidate to quit.

No. Not with the way things are. Working in government is no longer a stable job that allows one to build up a good pension. I'm pushing my kids, even my daughters, towards the trades.

My boyfriend is texting his best friend's girlfriend. He openly says "oh i texted her about x" to me and I believe him...but my concern is that they're going to start some sort of flirtationship. She's some sort of model and has even told her boyfriend that my boyfriend is funny whereas she says her boyfriend is obnoxious. Is this something to worry about? We're not in a great space right now so Idk what to think.
