Yes. I care.
One thing I’ve seen happen a lot is no one at an agency cares about awards until someone wins an award.
As a creative director, I care about awards because they energize my teams. Awards give them confidence. Their resumes and portfolios become stronger. Of course, they have to want to do award winning work as well. But yes, I do care. And all CDs should care, not for themselves, but for their creative team’s growth and careers.
Personally, no. The industry? Sadly, yes
Sadly, Awards are now agency KPIs.
It’s job security for one year only.
I care about them because they get me more money. I also know how much effort they take, so they make potential new hires more attractive as well.
Sure, they can count for a lot in some circumstances. It's a yardstick of sorts, and as such a convenient way to measure success. And it's a good way to shorthand people or projects. "Award winning" always sounds good.
I have never cared about them.
