@OP if you’re in the office do it from a phone booth or somewhere quiet if possible. Only do it on your laptop screen. Know who’s a corporate goon or ladder climber and never do it within eye shot of them. And don’t spend hours on it do it at once during office hours.
If you use a company computer, I definitely would advise against looking for a job while on the job. You can use your phone, but I'd probably do your research where you won't be seen. It's pretty obvious to coworkers when you're scrolling through job listings.

Lol not illegal at all. It's probably not the best move though, unless you work from home and your company doesn't monitor your computer. You don't want IT seeing that you spent your work day applying to other jobs.

Companies have full access to EVERYTHING on your computer. And I do mean EVERY THING.
Personal Experience:
My last company 3 people were "let go" because of what they wrote to each other in a private slack channel. It wasn't that bad really (mainly stuff in poor taste because they were young), but the owner was looking for an excuse as they were friends with someone they fired and had ill will towards. (It slowly became a toxic work environment like the boiling frogs).
Sitting in an office, I overheard through a wall the IT Director talking about what they were doing (I was not eves dropping, was reading dense paperwork so moved to a different office to be away from my computer to be able to focus). I immediately informed my friend who was on a PIP (again, toxic environment and they were building documentation to support their firing) and changed how I used the computer entirely.
This was one lesson I got to learn from the experiences of others.

It’s not illegal. I mean it’s unethical and if you get caught, you could probably be fired. However, technically it’s legal and we all do it.
