I feel that! Sometimes people just don’t pick up on hints. I usually try setting gentle but clear boundaries, like saying, “I need to focus on this right now, can we catch up later?” or scheduling a specific time to chat so it doesn’t interrupt work. It’s polite but still protects your focus.
I've got one just like this and he annoys me to no end. I feel bad because he's a really nice guy, he just has ZERO social awareness. I have to physically walk away to get him to stop talking. I feel like a bit of a jerk, but I just cannot handle being talked at incessantly. It stresses me out and makes it impossible for me to actually focus on my work.
Right? You feel guilty when you turn them off or walk away from the conversation. But, you can't let them keep going. I just remind myself that my first priority is to do my job and them make friends and for that if I have to be the bad guy, let it be.
Politely be firm with them and let them know you are focused on this and cannot talk right now. Sometimes you just have to be blunt with people. If they have and basic decency, they’ll understand.
Being blunt has some negative points too because they start taling to other people about you and sometimes label you as rude. But I guess some things come at price. So, if being blunt yields you some positive result, let it be.
Yes!! I'm going to pay attention to the replies. I need advice too.
I am paying attention to the replies as well and I guess there are some good points mentioned already by others.
