You can succeed as an introvert! I recommend building a few key relationships with leaders you trust. Share all of your wins with them, help them… they will be your champion. You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room, but you do need to make yourself known.
Its not how often you are noticed but the impact of your words when given. You can be the quiet person, just learn when to speak up and make it count.
Build strong 1:1 relationships get to know your peers and build strong friendships. No one gets to the top alone.
Find your tribe. In every organization find the suborgs. These are uncharted micro groups. They get coffee together or talk sports/movies etc. Might even play rounds of golf or bowl on the weekends. These are spaces to practice sharing your opinions. Be mindful of audiences but you can get used to speaking up. Land in one of these with sr leadership, develop rapport there and you will be going places.
You'll do just fine! Best regards!
I think it helps to be extroverted, but generally in consulting half of “making it” is playing the game and politics within your group. Combine that with making sure you do great work on projects and that the relevant parties take note (RL on check in calls, other leaders you may be close to when you do a catch up call every so often) and you should be set.
Regardless, a big part is making sure the right people know you and they know you’re impact. Unfortunately at the bigger firms the disconnect in most practices is huge (mainly bc of virtual work and overall size of some of the practices) and it is very easy to get lost in the crowd and those are the people that are getting cut loose, even though they have done good work they never played the game as well as others and suffered bc of it
I think having the highest visibility is the best way to to get ahead. Especially on the larger projects.
Yes.
I’ve seen lots of non people people at M+ levels.
