Kind of. If I’m making a certain salary now, I’ll be targeting my next role with that in mind. Now, a company isn’t usually interested in how much I was making and matching it or exceeding it unless I’m bringing a lot to the table, and they’ll go out of their way to figure it out. Depends a lot on how you look at it.
It shouldn’t. Wages are tied to responsibility - so assuming the responsibility is higher in your next role the wages should be higher. I never talk about my last salary as a rule for that reason. And if it’s the same or less responsibility - same idea.
No. I was making $75k 5 years ago and I took a cut when I was having trouble landing something for a while with the bad job market… took a job that pays $30k less til I can get something better.
Not if you lie about it. Lol. Usually when I’m asked what i am currently making i fudge a little and say I’m making a little bit more to help increase my job offer.
