Anyone gone through the CFI’s FMVA certification program? Is it worth it for FDD?

I think it’s worth it if you want to learn financial modeling and valuation concepts which you will not learn in FDD. If you aspire to eventually exit into IB/ER or valuation/Corp Dev/StratFin, it will give you a better chance at doing so as modeling is the the bread and butter of these finance roles. However, if FDD is what you want to do then nah, you can prob learn the basics elsewhere. FMVA goes in depth.

I personally started it and slapped it on my resume as “in-progress” under my certifications. Today I’m no longer in FDD. But depends what you want.

Happy new yr!

Just curious. Excluding business recovery / restructuring teams that are more counter-cyclical. What TS group do you think is the least cyclical? Valuation / modeling? Accounting advisory? Then lastly how “cyclical” do you view them?

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Anyone else have similar ideas?
