Does anyone else feel weirdly guilty when they have a slow day at work? I had one of those rare days this week where no one was emailing and my to-do list wasn’t on fire and instead of enjoying it, I spent the whole day feeling guilty. I kept refreshing my inbox and checking Slack. Toxic productivity culture has trained me to believe that if I’m not panicking, I’m slacking. Even when I’m meeting my goals, I feel like I have to “look” busy to prove I deserve my job. How do you unlearn that? What would you do to stop feeling like rest is something you have to earn?

I’ve been leading a massive project by myself for the last year almost and my boss torpedoed my last round of meetings: “oh we don’t need to socialize this, I’ve been doing it, let’s just kick it off.” Okay. So turns out, no one fucking knew and now because we had one meeting instead of two, the people we met with aren’t even the ones doing the work, and they’re not telling the ones who are supposed to do the work about it. So I now need to go back and do more meetings.
