Yeah if they don’t have a legal entity here, you will need an Employer of Record. I’m a Canadian with a US employer with no Canadian entity
That's a good opportunity depending on where in the states you'd be otherwise located. Ottawa is not an HCOL area, so it's a good option. Both Toronto and Montreal are a few hours away.
There are mostly all positive factors except the weather. People are nicer, money will go rather, so better investments and savings, lots of nature activities and a fainter shade of capitalism.

I’m in Ottawa and have a side contract with a company based in San Francisco. The 3 hour time difference really helps make it work for me. I’m not an employee - it’s a contract and it’s paid in USD which makes it even more attractive, paid through wire transfer. No GST to collect since they are US based.

I work with a us company remotely. Paid in usd and converted to cad monthly. Its a T4 full time job. Taxes are deducted no complications
