Does this big law actually get better/easier once you become equity partner? Or do you just make more money and that helps deal with the job better? Wondering if equity partner is harder/more work and stress.

It’s harder with more work and stress. You have to find clients, keep them happy, manage associates, keep them fed and happy.

It depends on what stresses you out about big law. I'm a NEP, but what I found stressful about big law was trying to juggling a bunch of different partners, learn everything from scratch, and do good enough work to not get fired with hardly any experience and a lot of debt 😅. As I've gotten more senior, those concerns have faded, and the worry about a client pipeline, keeping associates busy, etc just isn't the same because I feel confident that I can land on my feet. You have much more control as a partner (and particularly an EP) of your career and what happens, although that doesn't mean you have full control over what happens!

Not where I’m at. The partners are constantly stressed about BD and/or billing enough to make up when they can’t bring in enough business.

It gets way better and you make way more money. But I have been really enjoying BD.

EP looks worse from what I can tell. Dealing with needy clients, building a book of business, partnership politics, additional admin work, etc. all sounds awful. I don’t think you earn any more control over your schedule either – the partners never seem to sleep (same as the associates and counsel).

I'd push back on the idea that you don't have more control over your schedule as a partner. If a client asks for something, I get to decide if we can do it or not - I can ask for more time, etc. I also get to decide how to staff it and when. I get to choose when to review the associate work product and when to send it out. There may be surprise deadlines and projects with short timelines, so it's not that I'm saying I'm in 100% control of my schedule. But I have way more control now than I did as an associate.

Anyone here own a saw stop PCS or a Powermatic PM2000? Ive been setting aside money in my woodworking slush fund for a good cabinet saw to replace my contractor saw, and I’m intrigued by the SS’s hotdog sensing technology. Eager to hear opinions from anyone who owns one of the two saws.

I’m looking for some resources and/or recruiters to help me find a job in Houston. I worked in Big 4 audit for a year and 4 months. I am currently working in global finance/accounting for a major record label. I would like a financial analyst, staff accountant, or an internal audit position (ordered in preference from most wanted to least). I have also considered joining Big 4 again but only if it is an advisory position like FDD or deals. Thank you in advance!
