I’m team childfree, but why not just buy what you want when you want? I don’t like my friends buying me anything. If I want something I can go get it myself

It’s a free world.
If you don’t have kids, you can afford it more than parents can.

Gifts mark events. You being broke isn’t an event.

lol at parents being immediately triggered 😂

Ok. I will take some time to think about this. I feel this could be a learning moment for me.
Pay for want you want, don't bring this bitter energy. Makes us look bad.
I'm single and childless. I don't buy wedding gifts, my presence cost money. I was ECSTATIC to buy my close friends things for their babies. I'm not looking to recoup.
How old are you A2?

For the grand occasion of you doing what exactly? 🤣

What’s the point of the registry? To recoup money you spent on your friends? To celebrate your lifestyle?
You can make whatever registry you want, many sites advertise birthday registries.
How people react to you sending this request around depends on your friend group lol

They are familiar with the concept of humour I think they will like it.

OP and SSA - you do realize you are not required to give gifts if you don’t want to. Even if you are to buy a gift the registries are typically low value items ($50ish) i don’t think it’s gonna make or break your bank. I have childfree friends and I actually spend more for them on gifts (like gifts for their birthday, housewarming, anniversary etc.) than they do on my kid ($50 worth of toys) and it has never been an issue. If you value friendships because of the value of the gifts then I think you’d do well to find like minded people for you and your current friends’ sake.

I help my friends and my parents when they need it. I’m not a sibling parent or a spouse
Yesss - sign me up for a Home Depot registry
I see, how about a not-my-birthday registry as well, where people are invited to send you presents though it’s not your birthday. Maybe you can also start a gofundme and state you did not get into an accident but you know, just in case. There is a chance people will see your face and send money for surgery anyway.
I agree with OP - people with families have had so many life moments that are traditionally celebrated but it leaves out single people. I have friends who are single into their 40s and they also deserve a big celebration as well - that includes a registry.
How many bridal showers, bachelorette parties, baby gender reveals, baby showers, kids first birthday parties have I been to (& bought many gifts for the same couple for all their life events). This doesn’t count the times I’ve been a bridesmaid as well (where I have to pay almost $1k each time on various activities and dresses and flights and makeup). Why can’t older single people have a major life event (like turning 40, 50) that celebrates them and have a registry associated with it as well?
I think OP’s suggestion is a fine one
