Any tips on how to start and prepare my MBA Application? I don’t plan on applying till 2022 as I want to attend in 2023. What are things I can do to prepare now in order to have a strong application? Background: I’m aiming for HSW, M7, and top 15. I’m currently a Staff at EY within Business Consulting. I graduated from a Top 25 Business Undergrad - majoring in Finance and minor in Advertising with a 3.71 GPA. I want to pivot towards PM or Corporate Strategy in Tech, at Toyota, or Nike. TIA!

Does academic dishonesty show up on your transcript? If not you can play this off as work experience.

Sorry but your chances at M7 are slim to none with a major disciplinary incident like this. I would focus attention on R1 at a T15 school instead. If you do apply, definitely address it in the optional essay.
M1 has the correct follow up question - what shows up on your record? I went to an Ivy undergrad, and I know of someone two years younger then me who got caught plagiarizing a paper and was suspended for a year - but the kicker was that his parents negotiated to ensure it was NOT on the transcript.
He then took the year off to work at a few internships (like yourself) and spun it as a gap year to gain experience. We all hate him for it, but he definitely optimized the narrative here. If it’s not on your record, you can do the same.
I used a similar narrative for full time / internship recruiting and it worked, but don’t think it would work for grad school apps since they typically ask if you’ve had academic violations
I had extra credits. Will this meaningful impact chances for M7 or HSW? When I returned from the suspension my grades also improved as well. Throughout undergrad, my GPA had an upward trajectory. The class I had with academic dishonesty didn’t lower my GPA since I withdrew from the class.
This will only have impact if you sincerely explain this as a life lesson and express remorse for the academic dishonesty. I would treat this delicately and have several neutral parties review it for how it reads. It can be very easy for you to mean it as turning over a new leaf and for someone else to interpret it as - this person cheats/plagiarizes and is now bragging about how well that worked out for them.
Hire someone to make sure they help you tell the story appropriately
Agree. OP is one of the cases I believe warrants an admissions consultant.
We can all speculate about what adcom thinks or sees from background checks, etc, but noone here actually knows (First step is certainly checking your transcript, because if the discipline is there, there's no getting around disclosing the situation).
It’s not on transcript but have been told if the mba programs asks the school directly for disciplinary record, it will show up
I believe if they have no reason to ask, they wouldn’t. You may need to check by “starting” one of the applications or something and see if you would be required to share this information
