Ever had to go to work after a severe argument with your partner? How do you shake it off? I've only had a couple of days in my career where this has happened, but when I go to work after a fight, I get almost nothing done and am guilty of letting my team down in some meetings where I could have been sharper with responses. I hate that it has such a big hold on me and my ego doesn't allow me to talk to my partner until I get home and can do it in person... How do you deal with such situations??

I usually just accept that I can't give 100% each day, and if I am very distracted I will let my team know that I am a bit off.

I'm sorry that doesn't work for you. Hope you figure it out.

My mother was a psychology professor, so my experience may be different.

The way I “shake it off“ is to put it on paper or dictate it into my phone. It doesn’t need to be complete sentences, and it doesn’t need to be spelled correctly. There doesn’t need to be logic or any organisation. Just get it out of my head. I’ve been known to do that before going to bed so I can actually get a good nights sleep (some people say never go to bed angry, sometimes it’s just not possible to avoid).

I can do it in the morning in the car or wherever, so I can be mentally available during the day.

Sometimes I’ll get an additional thought during the day, and I can add it to my list. I don’t worry about putting in the right place, just add it to the list.

Then when I go home, I can re-read what I wrote.

With practice this means that I am comfortable getting those thoughts out of the active part of my brain during my workday, or while I’m with my kids, or wherever I should be paying attention.

I found that ruminating on the argument doesn’t help. It only served to punish myself and make myself miserable.

An alternative would be if your company has an employee assistance program, which is always a third-party company, and you can make some free consultations where they might be able to help you build the skills to do this yourself.

Alternatively, you could find a psychologist to help you build a processes or systems to be able to manage this, they might also be able to help you both “argue” better.

Lastly, look into some training courses on negotiation. These can be free courses or maybe even something your company offers. Because an argument really is about a negotiation.

I agree with Project Engineer 1 that we all have good days and bad days. Some days we are overpaid and some days we are underpaid. We have to forgive ourselves. And we have to make sure nobody gets hurt in the process.

You’ll make it through this!

Hey Guys,
I have a close friend who is facing a small dilemma which is not allowing him to decide if he should join NIIT or a European company as a Manager recruiter. At NIIT he is supposed to recruit call centre professionals whereas the other company is an IT consulting and service provider. Also in the European company he gets to manage an internationally diverse team. The salary offered is almost the same. He is confused majorly because NIIT is a brand and the other is not. My current project winds up on 31st December 2022. If I resign by mid/end of this month(expecting a few offers), would CG persist with the 90 day notice period with me serving majority off those on the bench or would they consider releasing early once the client stops paying? #Capgemini #NoticePeriod

This concept fascinates me & since I saw it on Reddit, I wanted to bring it here. Tell me what your experience has been like :)
