Question: If SPED students are receiving their Resource Minutes AFTER the regular school hours from their peers (8:30-10:30) is that Legal? They are not being pulled from the general Ed classes, but participating in an extended day. Should minutes be calculated based on a normal school day or the 2 hours they are in class?

Any math programs out there that you are finding to be successful when used with students in grades 4-6 who perform at an instructional level of 1st grade? We use a SRA direct instruction program and 1/2 the group is making gains while the other 1/2 has made no progress. We don’t have enough staffing to split the group either unfortunately.

Hi this year my school went to full inclusion therfore my mild moderate self contained class was dissolved as my students were pushed into general ed classes. I am now called an inclusion teacher. Anyone else experience this? If so what are your thoughts? Thanks!

I have been teaching students with special needs for 21 years now. The class size used to be 12:1. Now it’s 15:1, but you can have up to 18 students with the variance. Now my Principal said that you can have up to 19 students!!!! Is anyone else noticing that the self contained class is getting larger?

A student I work with uses AAC but doesn’t have science terms in their device. The focus is on core vocabulary but I feel lost not teaching these terms. I wanna modify but feel lost. I could contact the speech teacher but need a short term solution

I’m in my fourth year of teaching special Ed (high school resource room) and really feeling the burn out. A gen ed job just opened up at the middle school level, same district. I really think a grade level change is what I need, but can I do that to my students and parents? Has anyone switched jobs mid year and how did it go?

I use to enjoy pulling together lessons using a variety of resources, and not using textbooks or ready made curriculum. I just used the standards. These days, I’m finding that my online students find a set curriculum easier to navigate. I’m finding it easier to keep organized online. Anyone else having a similar experience?

I'm an intermediate resource teacher with several 6th graders who don't want to be pulled out of the gen ed class in fear of being stigmatized by their peers or because the activities that are provided to them in the form of choice boards and differientiated at their ability level, seem too babyish for them. How do I provide service minutes to students who prefer to stay in class? with their peers without special needs.

Is anyone else just feeling completely overwhelmed and ready to quit? Administration keeps throwing more paperwork and responsibilities on us and I dont know how much more I can do. Any Spec Ed teachers feel like every time you try to get your program running you can’t? I am not in a self-contained class but more of a student drop in resource room where I work in small groups with life skills students who come to me for instruction & then take independent tasks back to class to complete. I have a lot of room to add students to my schedule- but my boss seems to think I shouldn’t be taking on more students but it’s my job to help those struggling students. I’m at a loss.

Hello Teachers! I hope all of you are doing well to the start to the new school year. I’d like to ask those of you who are California special education teachers a question. IEPs service minutes lunch snd breaks being included in daily minutes.
64,800 min. are required number of service minutes per year( for grades 9-12), you divide that by 180 ( 180 school days) = 360. In those 360 minutes of their day ;lunch & break is included correct? I mean some students have that as goals in there IEP. Help
