I make a good salary. A long time ago, my husband told me to stop making the job more than it is. At the time I was deeply offended, but over the years, I have found that he was right. I have learned to teach to the best of my ability during my working hours, use the district-provided resources efficiently and effectively, and let the rest go. I work hard. I care. But I have learned to let parents parent, make things work with what I have available, and to stay off of sites that promote teachers as always doing more, more, more for the kids. Life balance has become important to me. I feel well compensated for what I do and that I do a good job. I am always learning and trying to improve my practice, but not by stressing myself out or spending all my time and money on it.

Wow. What a great reply! I had a salaried job in healthcare. I learned this same lesson except I learned it by burning out
I don’t think so. I KNOW SO!!!

I feel like I'm underpaid but thankfully I have had some very appreciative parents which makes it a little better.

I agree that appreciative families make work easier. Last valentine’s day I was flooded with candies and chocolate covered strawberries. I really felt the love
I was imagining at the end of school last week, what if we had an additional 2 paid weeks after the kids left to complete grades without anxiety and late hours, clean up my room and start prepping for next year. It was a random thought, but I realized how marvelous, and how helpful that would be. I would be so much more relaxed over the summer knowing I had made preparations for the fall, so much more prepared and happy and relaxed.
Never going to happen though.

That is seriously a great idea. Even having one paid week without the kids would make a world of difference
