Every time I try to talk about compensation, my manager hits me with the we're all struggling line and talks about how hard she has it. It’s an effective guilt trip, but it doesn't pay my bills. Who else has a boss who makes asking for a raise feel like a crime?

I have only ever been hit with that line. How are you approaching the conversation? Something I do that has worked in the past is saying “I’d like to negotiate a raise”. With that you need to lay out the facts on what you are doing and how that’s bringing business or how you’ve stepped up as a leader. If all else fails you should then begin to look for another job.

I hope you get paid what you are worth!

Your manager is making the money that should be given to you guys sadly and thinks she thinks she’s relating to you by acting like her pay doesn’t suffice.

I’m 36 and I recently reached a net worth of 1 million dollars. I thought I was doing good but then I see other people with several millions and can’t help but wonder how they got there.
I feel I’m doing everything I’m supposed to (I save, I invest, I max out my 401k, IRA, etc...).

What can I do to upgrade my game and reach those higher numbers?

For any of you real estate investors, what tools or sources did you learn from when getting started. Can’t find a mentor currently so want to find some highly recommended books or videos. If focused on the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Long Island mainly) that would be even better. My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. Trying to understand all the steps, traps, and how to find if it’s a good investment.

Solo trip to europe for two weeks this august, 27/F, deciding between two options: city and beachside or maybe both! I generally like walkable cities, good food, bespoke wine bars, stay a while in cafe scenes. Aside from London, Paris, Lisbon, (been to these cities already) any recommendations?? Keeping in mind that europe is still easing out of covid restrictions, would like to head somewhere that’s going to be more open. TIA :).
