Everyone assumes partnership means you’ve QUOTE on QUOTE made it, but I know partners who are waaay more burned out now than they ever were as managers. So curious, what are your strategies to keep your stress managed at the top?

Ex-MBB partner here. Realized couple of years back that consulting is fundamentally changing. No one really wants to pay for the fancy strategy. Given the access to information, we don’t really provide any unique perspectives as well.

The value is in getting sh*t done and executed in P&L, and execution work doesn’t command MBB premium.

So got tired of chasing 10M+ sales every year for which neither the client was willing to pay nor I believed in the long term viability.

Decided to pull the plug and joined a major F500 as part of their C-Suite. So much better control on what I do, and much better visibility on what is about to come.

As some say, making Partner is like winning a pie eating contest, and the prize is more pie. And you have to eat it.

Keep the fact that we’re not saving lives top of mind and create a network of incredible people to trust and rely on.

Accumulated personal savings/investments goes a long way, since you know you can leave whenever you want to. That takes most of the stress out of the job for me

Recognize that the large consulting partnerships today do not have the wonderful cultural fabric they had 30 years ago. Helps put the stress in a box.

Man. I think you MBB guys have it good. Where I am PPMD means you need to perform - you are generating the revenue that keeps the firm going and if you don’t, it won’t work out. It is as much stress as you make it. Coping: I always just tell myself I have a history of figuring it out so likely will again. And in the meantime build up financial flexibility.

You guys have / had highly comped low pressure jobs? Awesome, always thought that was unrealistic.

Am MBB, can confirm I need to generate revenue or be fired. Not sure who is out there chilling.

Had a 2 year stream of revenue and life was great until it wasn’t. Since then it’s been generate revenue or get fired and every day is a new adventure! Our industry is changing by the month. Buckle up

Therapy. Also knowing that if anything adverse happens that it’s just “business” so I’m always networking with other firms just in case I need an exit to another firm.

I find it helpful to take a break now and then. Get up from your desk, stretch, walk out of the office...and just keep walking. Don't ever go back.

Find ways to generate recurring revenue with a client. Tailor the results of the first project as something you can own for them on a defined frequency, at least an annual refresh. Keeps the sales momentum going and landing a few of those gives you a cushion as you chase new opps.

Anyone here with experience as a Product Manager? I’ve close to decade of consumer lending experience including Sales/Advisory, Supervisor and Underwriting. I have have been looking to pivot into a more impactful role this year. I am due for an interview for a Product Manager next week. The company ticks all my boxes but the job description a bit vague. I will be grateful if anybody willing to share what the day role looks like and what I need to look out for in an interview. Thanks. Cheers.

Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

One key selling point, as they are trying to offer is the opportunity to work one day a week to use for things like training, acquiring certifications or building applications that you are interested in.

This sounds amazing. I don't get that at my current job. So, is this too good to be true? I would like your opinion on this.
