Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Ive been in a similar situation. I told my new employer to proceed with all checks except the reference check with my current employer until all other checks had come back fine. They agreed

My checks were outsourced and I told the outsourced party the sequence that I preferred and they made it work.

Depends on the company you are in, Barclays had an automated reference where you can request and send it directly to the outsourcing company themselves or to myself directly. I handed in notice once I got the contract as I was sure in my background and the new company stated that whilst they would ask for a reference it had no baring as they had hired from Barclays previously and had no issues

Usually current employer reference check is just calling HR and asking if you work there. And even then it’s all done online nowadays. So you boss won’t even know. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Agree with the above comment. Larger orgs have online portals for employment verification. This is used for several purposes, including loan applications. Unless you’re at a very small shop, I’d not worry about it.
Congrats on the offer!

I’m in a similar position. Congrats on the new role!

I’ll wait for them to send me the background check forms then I’ll ask HR at the new firm to not contact my current employer:)

I never let my current employer know until I am 100% certain the offer is legit and ready to go. You have the right to tell them not to contact your current employer. The new employer could always rescind the offer, at which case you are out of luck for employement for the moment. Luckily you could probably sue since a reasonable person would not expect the company to rescind and offer after notice was given to a former employer.

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
