I mean, take their words at face value. They basically validated this sentiment for you: you're clearly competent, you just haven't worked within whatever industry they're in. That's not a black mark against you at all.

That is a helpful way to reframe it. In the moment it felt like rejection, but you are right. They did not question capability, only familiarity with the industry. That distinction is easy to forget when emotions are involved.
Your experience is unique to you. There are plenty of people with a ton of experience and less experience. It’s just business, and easier for them to go with somebody who knows, which makes it hard to pivot to something new, but be persistent!

Persistence really is the only bridge when changing industries. I am realising that one “no” often just means the company did not want the training curve. It does not mean the pivot itself is unrealistic.
