It’s all about KPIs and metrics. Showing you can deliver on key performance indicators is the biggest thing that they are looking for. Everybody has creative, clever ideas, but how do they convert? If you can show solid understanding of KPIs, you are leagues ahead of everybody else.
I wish somebody had explained this to me early in my career, and I wouldn’t have focused on trying to learn a bunch of creative skills and would instead have focused on learning analytics and analyzing metrics. Marketing at the mid and upper levels has a lot more to do with data than anything else.
Any and all of that. It really depends on the company or agency's needs. If I could only pick a handful, I would say email marketing and campaign strategy since those are direct revenue drivers.
That makes sense — thank you for sharing. I agree that campaign strategy and email marketing often get overlooked at junior level, even though they directly impact conversions and revenue. It’s useful to hear that companies value candidates who can understand the why behind campaigns, not just execute individual tactics. I’ll definitely keep focusing on building that broader strategic understanding alongside hands-on skills.
