Wear comfy sneakers for the walk to and from work and keep cute shoes in bag for work. Also, I color coordinate with seasons. Helps me select outfits. I also search online for styles, Pinterest is a good start.
My work bag is already too full to keep heels or anything beyond a flat/sandal in it. I switched my work bag from a north face backpack to be a structured leather tote to look more clean. May have to consider getting a larger bag after some wardrobe updates to fit shoes. Since I don’t really want to carry another tote bag or anything for shoes
I feel you. Check out the blog corporette. They track sales and are obviously geared towards professional women. You can also book a stylist for free at nordstrom. You tell them what you're shopping for and your price range and they'll help you find pieces. It doesnt cost anything unless you choose to purchase some of the clothes. I used to wear jeans a lot to the office, but I think wearing dress pants or even dresses/skirts in the summer looks a lot more professional.
It sounds lame, but I feel more confident when I dress well.
If you walk to work, I suggest walking shoes and change them before you walk in the building.
Also, put aside $$ every month for new clothing. Get basics, if you don't already have them. And build on that. Determine YOUR style and don't compare yourself to others.
I wear a lot of dresses and sometimes skirts. My colleagues comment how I look professional. In reality I just dislike pants and find it more comfortable.
Weather is comparable to NYC but Im in the midwest/snowbelt. I wear dresses or skirts with thick black tights in the winter. Ankle booties if we have snow and I might have to brush off my car after work
