To be honest the garden leave usually plays in your favor. You need to finalize your notice period as per the contract, whether it is one month or three months, and you don't actually have to work. The companies do this because they want to separate the employee from the operations while serving his/her notice, and avoid employees that are on their way out to keep interacting with clients or mixing with the teams

How it works:
1. You leave
2. You go to garden
Basically, you are still serving your notice period but without the need to work.
I have personally seen them enforce in 2 cases (there could be more):
1) If they fire you, and the compensation package includes x months of salary, therefore you are on x months of garden leave
2) If you resign, and they immediately want you out, but contractually are obligated to have you serve your notice period, in that case as well, x months of garden leave
3) ...

totally normal clause, all consulting firms including strategy houses put it in their contracts. generally nothing to worry about.
it’s in the case where either party decides to terminate the contract (typically not on good terms i.e. firing or resigning not on good terms) company puts you on garden leave where you’re paid full salary, while not permitted to work during that period for others. which is totally normal as your garden leave would typically be the same as your notice period that you’ll have to serve anyway. the exception is you won’t have access to your employer systems, ….etc.
