Even if I wasn’t these things they could act normal…
All the time, I've had one or two tell me it's because they worried about saying something wrong. But they don't have to act like they're walking on eggshells either though? Makes everything feel awkward.
Yes, exactly. They’re instead making it feel awk/hostile. Honestly makes me want to go somewhere else atp
I'm lucky enough to have fellow POCs on the team who make me feel welconed enough that I barely have to pay any mind to the others. I hate it when they act that way. I don't even bite, I'm just as scared of them as rhey are of me.
This is perfectly normal, especially where I am. It's almost embedded in the culture unfortunately
Sorry to hear that OP, but like others have said it happens a lot more often than it should. Perhaps you can try to build meaningful connections with your coworkers so they can know you for who you really are!
Ive found that many white people working in corporate have never had to interact with a black person closely on a daily basis. They are just afraid to be offensive and I think just distance themselves as a precaution. Kind of silly, I know.
Maybe not necessarily in a bad way. Perhaps they're just being extra cautious with their words or actions because they don't to come out offensive in any way.
