Love all these for low key branding, high quality bags
Woo that’s a big question, I’ll attempt to answer it. I’d recommend thinking through what she really wants:
- Does she want it to be functional (not too heavy, cam hold things, can be used for work) or stylish (usually smaller, more of a statement, some are not easy to open / close)
- Think about what style does she usually resonate with (every brand has its own vibe, check out their website or insta and it’ll be easy to tell)
- See if she cares about resale value (some bags hold value really well over the years, some bags brand new resale could love 50% right off the bat). Classic colors like black hold value better than bright / seasonal colors
- Does she care if it’s a “popular” bag or does she want something no one else has (some bags are instantly recognizable classics, but there’s also bags that are “if you know, you know)
I love celine, the older phoebe philo styles are really lowkey (classic box, belt bag, etc.) The newer styles come off as targeting younger people.
If she wants something that holds value, I’ll have to say Chanel or Hermes. I feel like they are more timeless and she’s more likely to hang onto them for years to come, but they do cost more. Non-flashy Chanel would be the 2.55, and Hermes bags usually never have big logos.
The all important question…. What’s the budget?
Off the top of my head…
$1-2K - Chloe, Prada, Alexander Wang
$3-4K - Gucci, Mui Mui, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga
$4-5K - Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen
$5K and up: Chanel, baby

More generally, most of these are commercial brands not designers in the classical sense of the word. That world is gone.
Agree w M1 - love Celine because minimal branding and great shapes.
If she wants to be perceived as cool/rich and 'designer savvy,' she would buy a bag with the least bling such as Row. If she just wants a status label, Hermes and Chanel would do it.

YSL Kate is a nice starter. Is she does LV people usually start with a speedy. Celine bags are a nice starter as well.
YSL Kate was my first bag! I love it and I got the wallet on chain version totally worth it and didn't break the bank.
