Those kinds of comments stick with you, no matter how long it’s been. People really need to do better.

Oh yup. While working at this retail store, I once tried stopping a guy who did not pay for a pet food bag and he screamed at me and shouted “this lady is harassing me". I still remember him till this date.

Wild how those moments stay with you.
First week at a job in retail in 2010. I came up to back up cashier and asked the next person to step over. Of course the last person in line comes over. I point out the person who was actually next and then proceed to get yelled at and made fun of when my face went red and eyes teared up because of the yelling. I paged a manager but by the time they got up there the transaction was almost over. Had I been there longer than a week I would have just thrown the customers batteries and told them to gtfo, but didn't have the footing to do that yet. The best was the person who screamed at me was the local coroner (found out later. She was terrible all around) and I very happily helped vote her out in the next election .

Wow, that sounds rough, especially in your first week. It’s crazy how some people think yelling is acceptable. Glad you kept your cool, and even better that she didn’t stay in that position forever!
