I have nightmares a few nights a week, but I also have complex PTSD and they tend to go hand in hand. I’m 34 and I don’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t have nightmares, honestly. So fun.
Is there a big stressor in your life that’s cropped up recently? If you’ve been feeling more depressed or anxious lately, this is likely a way for your mind to process it. If it keeps happening, it could be worth it to speak to a therapist to get to the root of what’s going on.
My last one wasn’t too bad.
I had a big proposal that was due in 12 hours. It hadn’t been written yet and was fairly sizeable. And the proposal needed to be written in Japanese.

Are there really people who don’t have nightmares?! What kind of super power is this and how do I get it?

My husband has been on Prozac for years and he says he never dreams (or I guess more accurately, remembers his dreams) anymore. So some people on those types of drugs may not get them.

Yeah once in a while. I also get a recurring dream of having a final exam in a class I never attended. I’m 30.
Uhh I also have that dream every month or so - also for a language class (Spanish)...

I’m confused. Aren’t we all in one right now?
Nightmares are just a type of dream. If you still dream, you can also have nightmares. I still dream and sometimes it’s a bad one. Age 38
Haven't had a nightmare since early teens 🤔

It’s entirely normal to have them- I had a strong increase of them at the start of the pandemic, they’re often related to high stress. I use to get sleep paralysis very bad but haven’t had one in a while.

Yeah they’re a really disturbing experience, it almost takes the edge off standard nightmares, on the upside.
There’s a times article about an increase in # of nightmares since covid - been happening to me a lot too

I’m in my 50s and still have them at least a few times a year.
When you turn 40, they will increase and feel real.
I haven’t had a dream in probably 5 years, before I got married.

Marriage killed your dreams. 😭

Yeah I have a nightmare maybe once or twice a year and I’m in my late 30s. I don’t think it’s a big deal.
Side note but this made me realize I haven’t remembered a dream in years. Any way to reverse that?
I remember my dreams better when I go to bed hungry, such as during a fast
I had a vivid one at 29 that my husband died. I also have teacher friends/family (at all stages of career) who have recurring nightmares in the days/weeks leading up to the school year...can only imagine how much worse those will be this year.
A few weeks ago, my nightmare was that I OD'ed on meds. I struggle with depression and its an ongoing battle. But I've made significant recovery over the years and what used to be a regularly occurring nightmare, it only happens once every quarter.
Nightmares have an age correlation?
Yes I have started to have more as I have progressed in my career. I typically have them on the night before an important meeting or when a deliverable is due.
I have nightmares on a weekly basis Once a year? Sign me up!
Mine always have a common theme. In high school/college, I completely forget about a class and remembered it before the final that I needed to graduate. In the business world, I forget about scheduling and running an audit until right before the deadline. I’m pretty organized and this hasn’t ever happened in the real world, but the theme of dreams continues nonetheless.
