Has anyone done a summer internship where no return offers were given, and instead all interns were told to simply mention the internship when applying for a graduate role? I’m just wondering if this is normal.

Actually no interns in the office I was at was made a return offer, and across the other locations those interns were also not made a return offer.

Without more details or the company it’s hard to provide guidance. Some companies use internship programs to find new hires and others use it as a way to provide good will to universities in providing an internship to students but it ends there. If your 100% sure nobody else received offers then it seems like you have your question answered which is this company does not use their internship program to hire full time employees.

That doesn’t seem normal, but could be a sign to keep your options open.

It definitely wasn't normal even a couple of years ago, but I've been hearing that return roles are getting harder to come by. I'd definitely keep options open and see what else you can find. I'm so sorry a return offer wasn't made!

It happens…. Lets me guess last in first out approach to your day didn’t work to well!!

Are you graduating and wanting to work or graduate to go to graduate school? If returning to school most companies will not give an offer 2-3 years out.

If trying to work after graduating the I’ve seen this happen a few times. Basically business has a downturn and not hiring but don’t want the bad PR of canceling internships so they let students do the internship.

At my firm they have a hiring freeze in tax which is crazy to me but they only picked 1 intern and we had a whopping 3. It’s an economic downturn. It just is what it is
