I've been in that situation too. I had a customer straight-up tell me how unfair it was that we were closing. I just smiled and bit my tongue. What I wanted to say was "Trust me, I think it’s pretty unfair too, since I won’t have a paycheck anymore." Good luck though, I'm sure you'll be able to find another job.
I had that happen once, the store I was working at was closing. Luckily I was being shifted to another location, so it wasn't the end of the world. But wow, some of the customers took it as a personal insult. Some people just can't handle it if their little routines change.
It’s always so tough when customers take their frustrations out on you. I’ve been in similar situations, and it can be disheartening. I like your approach of mentioning your job situation, it really helps humanize the experience! It’s a great reminder that we’re all just trying to get through it together. Good luck with everything!
I fell ya, it completely sucks, how many times in one day can you hear it without stepping to the back and just breaking. Love my job, a quarter of my life in one company for what, to hear them say they love us but have been tearing us up on surveys and social media... yay.
