What is a data lake in basic terms?
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

You don’t. You talk about how exciting the new opportunity is because of X, Y.and Z
Seriously, don’t. No matter how richly deserved the criticism is. Two major reasons:
1) It undermines your negotiating position, as they might think you need this new job more than they need you.
2) It makes them associate you with the image of a “disgruntled” employee. Every organization no matter how great has one of those now and then, and they are a drag on managers’ energy and the broader team’s morale and productivity until they leave. Nobody wants to have a disgruntled employee on their own team. Even if they believe you had good reasons to be peeved at your old job, it’ll be hard for them to shake the concern that it’s your personality, and that you’ll wind up being a drag on their team.
That being said, if your actual motivation is to escape a bad culture and leadership, you should do your homework to learn about the culture and leadership of the places you are considering - in advance and through any opportunities they give you to ask questions. If you like what you hear, note the specific things that were appealing about it, and talk about how you’ve always wanted to work in an environment like that, or you really respect leadership’s position on X, or whatever it is. If you don’t like what you hear, maybe it’s not the right place anyway.
It really is motivation for me to leave at this point, this prime advice and validation I needed to read. It can be frustrating when you love what you do but some how others can spur the taste by not being team players (etc etc). Appreciate this insight, I am currently looking outside of consulting now because it seems to hit and miss without consulting. I could just end up with another VP working above me who is manipulative and just mean (mean is vague/childish but we all know what mean really is).
Plz don’t say that. Always keep a positive vibe & speak good things about your current employer. Otherwise, u will come off unprofessional.
