Hello! Canadian here aspiring to move to Singapore in the near future. I would love to get insights on product management roles in financial services. Not so much in digital products. Would you say there's an ample demand in this space?

I know the bars are becoming higher for expats but I would still give it a shot.

Not in the finance industry but overall, job market is extremely tough here. Very high bar to get foreigners in and many people on the market trying to find a job (Permanent Residents who have higher priority than any foreigners).
Start with the COMPASS to assess your chances to get an Employment Pass here:

Noted, thanks so much for sharing the link!

There is a robust demand in this sector. However employers are encourage prioritise local hires over foreigners, like most countries.

Barriers to Entry and Employment Pass Requirements:

To work in Singapore as an expatriate, securing an Employment Pass (EP) is mandatory. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has established a two-stage eligibility framework for EP applicants:
1. Salary Threshold: As of January 1, 2025, the minimum qualifying salary for EP applicants in the financial services sector is S$6,200 per month. This threshold increases with age, reaching up to S$11,800 for candidates aged 45 and above.
2. Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS): Beyond the salary requirement, candidates must pass the COMPASS, a points-based system evaluating factors such as qualifications, salary relative to local benchmarks, diversity, and support for strategic economic priorities. A minimum of 40 points is required to pass.

If you mean a product manager for more traditional financial products (e.g. loans, packaged products) there are definitely open roles for higher seniorities, particularly in the institutional and family office space. Immigration status is also less of an issue there, as long as your income is high enough. They aren't well advertised though, so you'd probably need to go through a recruiter/head hunter.

If you mean a tech PM in the finance/Fintech space, it's harder right now as there were multiple layoffs recently and most firms have a mandate to hire those already in country. You probably also need bilingual proficiency as many are Chinese or Chinese-affliated companies (e.g. Ant Financial, Sea Money) or targeting additional ASEAN markets (e.g. Indonesia, Vietnam).

Very very tough market right now. Most banks won’t touch foreigners (unless super senior) right now
