Looks a little feminine to me. Assuming you are a male? I also don’t believe in settling for watches. To me buying a vintage watch will remind me that I couldn’t get the Rolex I wanted. Just my opinion could look awesome
Yes male. Hmm I guess that’s a fair point. I was looking at used for the cost savings and have heard advice to buy one from your birth year. Interesting point about it looking feminine. It is a 36mm DJ
I don’t think it’s necessarily feminine but 36mm is on the smaller side for men’s watches these days. Personally I think 38-40mm is the sweet spot (and no larger than 40). I can’t really comment on the price of that specific one but based on a cursory google search it looks to be roughly in the right ballpark (assuming it has the box and papers - otherwise maybe a bit high).
There are many variations of the datejust, from dial color to bezel appearance to bracelet style. If possible I’d try to find one near you to try on before purchasing, to make sure you’re comfortable with how it wears on your wrist specifically. The jubilee bracelet personally is a more dated look than the oyster ones but that’s just my preference.
With vintage watches another thing to watch is the service history - if it hasn’t been serviced (and without a receipt I’d assume that it has not been) then you may need to send it away for a few hundred bucks within the next year or two
A 36mm Datejust will always be a classic and timeless watch. With a lug width of 20mm the watch doesn’t look out of place on a man’s wrist (assuming the wrist is under 8” a round). It can certainly be worn by a woman as well, but then again, I’ve seen women wear 45mm watches (which looks ridiculous, btw).
This particular one is priced a bit high (as it doesn’t have box and papers, per Acc1’s point). It is also from a time period where Tritium was used to make the hands and dial glow and it didn’t need to be “charged” by light. By now the magic glow will have all but disappeared, which means that watch will be difficult to read in low light situations.
For a first Rolex, I recommend buying new, buying what you can afford, and saving up for exactly what you want if you can’t afford what you want right now. Check out the Oyster Perpetual 39 (oft referred to as the OP39); it comes in lots of colors, costs $5,700, and is timeless as heck. I just recently got one with a white Dial and I love it.
Can’t go wrong with a Datejust, goes with virtually any outfit and occasion. Good buy 👍🏾
Do you want Vintage or is it more price point?
I’d avoid purchasing something that you don’t love just because it’s in a range you can afford. Lots of times that’ll end in a spiral of flipping watches and usually losing money in the process. Some people enjoy that but others wish they’d just waited and saved to purchase the watch they really wanted
Looks fine
I like it
