It's true that there's a lot of walking involved. The problem is that it's not sustained walking, so it's not really great exercise. It's better than being completely sedentary, but it's not like going out and walking for a few miles.

That’s such a good point. It’s definitely a lot of movement, but it’s not the same as intentional, steady exercise. Still, it’s better than sitting all day!
The exhaustion after a full shift is something else. In the morning I'll delude myself into thinking I'll go to the gym or cook dinner or whatever, and then I always wind up doing the same as you. Change into PJs, throw a frozen pizza in the oven and fight to stay awake long enough to eat it instead of burning my apartment down.

That level of exhaustion is real! Long shifts can really take it out of you. It’s amazing how drained you can feel after a full day on your feet.
Very true! When you first start too! Your feet are so painful after your shift too!!

Yes! The first few weeks are the toughest. Your feet definitely need time to adjust to being on them all day.

Yep you definitely get your steps in! The most I’ve ever walked in a day was almost 20,000 steps!!! That was a record for me!!! And yes, I practically dropped on my bed when I got home.

20,000 steps is impressive! No wonder you dropped straight into bed. Retail shifts can seriously feel like a marathon.

Retail definitely doubles as a workout. All that walking and running around really takes it out of you, but at least you’re getting your steps in even if it’s exhausting by the end of the day.

So true! It really does double as a workout. You’re exhausted by the end of the day, but at least you’ve definitely hit your step goal.

Agreed! I’m still in the process of trying to find comfortable and supportive shoes because this pain is not normal 😩
