They don’t give you a two week notice when they lay you off or fire you!
Whether it's bad depends on your circumstances. You'd be giving up an income, so you need to think about whether you can handle that. If you're really at the point of breaking, you should leave. I'd advise giving notice and not just walking out. Things like that can come back to haunt you.
I am trying to figure when and how to give notice, if end of nov they may walk me out and i lose my thanksgiving holiday pay and dec benefits but it gives me 2 days off in my notice and i can leave cleanly in early December if i dont get fired immediately. Or early December but i cant last 2 full weeks in office after notice.. or just 2 days or 1 week notice but i could be marked ineligible for rehire by the local gov
I always try to give two weeks. But I've also never worked in an environment that's anywhere near as toxic as what you're describing. Monitoring bathroom breaks is straight up Orwellian. I don't blame you at all for wanting out immediately, especially if you're not planning on staying in government. Burning this bridge shouldn't have any impact on your ability to go back to teaching.
I try to as well but this has been toxic, micromanaging, nonstop calls without enough time in between.. id never return to a call center again and was about to quit when i got told they moved me here. But it’s a local gov job so i dont want to burn bridges in case of future jobs in diff roles in other departments or agencies..
Notice is needed if you want to appear to be eligible for rehire; this doesn’t just mean you're going back to the job, but checking references, too. If you already have that next job lined up, I wouldn’t worry much.
By notice, does it make a difference if it’s 2 days notice, a week, or 2 weeks?
So my question is , based on your post the crime analyst position for the city of Hartford is a call center ?
Did they move you from FO CSR to TSC sometime in July? If so, I’m in the same boat. I did not apply nor accept a position in a call center. Taking non-stop back to back calls is insanity, yet they want you to have everything documented by the time the call ceases.
they dont give notice when they terminate you. It's an at will state, it works both ways in my opinion. I resigned from a position I worked eight years at. Management was despicable and they were ruining my mental health. Pay and benefits were awesome, but I could not take their treatment any longer. Protect your mental health.
If it’s a seasonal or term job, grin and bear it. These positions count toward merit for a permanent gov job down the road.
Two week notice is a thing of the past IMO. When I’ve given one they almost immediately let you go because of confidentiality or access to proprietary data, etc….it’s just a curtesy that can be explained away if not given.
