It's the nature of the beast in a constantly transforming landscape. I have seen my fair share and still continue to do so and so have accepted this as the new normal (I dislike that term).

Yes absolutely. It’s exhausting!!

I left my previous employer (of 15 yrs) because of the good o’boys club (you can join if you cheat on your wife, have zero accountability, a huge ego and nose up a VP’s ass). Some of the best competent people have left recently as a result. Now they’re constantly posting propaganda on LI pretending it’s a “fun & cool” place to work. It makes me want to throw up in my mouth. I was I could tell all the naive young millennials to run, as fast as they can or else they better watch their backs…

What counts as operational experience in a startup context? I am a data scientist interested in VC in the long run. After a year or two as Lead DS, I plan to do a stint in a startup. Would it be better to pursue roles with more of a lean towards bizops vs hands-on engineering, if the end goal is a tech-focused fund like a16z?

I am a sales rep and have worked extremely hard to build a large book of business. Every year upper management seems to find a way to cut commissions and make my hard work, worth less. Is this common? It’s pretty draining to work harder and get paid less year over year even though you’re typically getting more business. I don’t feel valued. Do more for less? Any other great sales companies/ industries that people are happy with and compensated accordingly? Preferably uncapped commissions

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from. Why have unions become so powerless in recent years? A decade ago, the collective bargaining units would get wage increases that matched or exceeded inflationary growth. Now we are lucky to see any positive integer offered.

Realistically, if they are merely securing my job for $100/month they are not providing value! I can protect my own job, AND pay for a decent retirement with that money saved.
