If the pet is not a service animal and not allowed on the property… I would tell the owner to please leave the premises. If they don’t follow the rules.. I would call in a manager to take care of the situation.
The previous hotel that I worked at does allow pets, yet they never verified if they had the paperwork to confirm. Then if the guests did not inform us we would charge the guests the $150.00 fee. Then when the guests would see the charge they would call us and say that the pet is a service pet, yet they (the hotel) never checked to verify. Our HSK Department was the ones that reported it to the front desk and ASGM. Of which my ASGM was to lazy to go and verify.
I ignore them too. It's my manager's problem to deal with, not mine. Even still, it's annoying seeing people abuse this. I love my dogs more than anything, but I'm not going to pretend they're service animals so I can take them grocery shopping with me. It's just inconsiderate. They cold make a mess or cause someone to have an allergic reaction.
Agree
It's been a while since I've told anyone to leave with their dog. Some of the people who bring them in are looking for trouble and I figure a manager can deal with it. You're right that you can tell the dogs that have no training, a real service dog is so well behaved that you almost don't notice them in the store.

I am so lucky my place allows dogs as we are not in a mall. The animals coming in are the best part of my day. 😂
That said, as long as the animal and people are well behaved, even if it wasn’t “allowed,” I’d allow it. (Now that’s where it’s not a health issue, like a restaurant or something.)
I work at a pet store so we allow all dogs in. Which I am so grateful for, because I really don't want to be messing with the fake service dog people. It really annoys me that people pull that kind of thing. It makes it so much more difficult for people with actual service animals.

I would ignore it.
Luckily for me that’s someone else’s problem. If their dog is getting in my way, I’m might report it to my manager. Otherwise I just ignore it and let someone else deal with it. I’m not getting paid enough to worry about it.
