I think you got the order reversed
🤦🏽♂️
Always focus on solving a problem first. There are countless business ideas that have failed because although the products were interesting, it didn’t solve a problem properly and no one wanted to buy it. Or a competitor came in and did it better. So I would start with a general area you’re interested in, think of broad challenges faced there, and then start to narrow in accordingly until you think of a solution to it. And then work on the value proposition etc from there
Find a problem, come up with a plan to solve it, and size the market.
For example... let's say there's a doohickey on the market that plenty of people use, but everyone complains that it is counterintuitive/not customer friendly/broken/etc. You have an idea for a doodad that will resolve the issues with the doohickey and the target market is large enough that you *can* become profitable.
That's it in a nutshell, though the specifics will vary substantially based on the problem you identify. You can identify problems from personal experience, through surveys/market research, or even just from reading the news or publications in a given space.
Please don't Zuckerberg and steal someone else's idea. You can always bring your skills to the table and partner up with someone who has an idea. 💡
