Ahah that’s fair enough!

I recently bought a house, so probably not very far. I don't really have the freedom of movement I had before I bought the house. I could sell it, but I would take a huge loss, so I probably wouldn't.

like

Yeah I completely get that. I had a very similar issue a few years ago, but me and my ex split up so I had to sell the house anyway, so got a new job whilst I was at it 🤣

Anywhere if I didn’t have a family with young kids.

like

That’s totally understandable. Taking them away from friends / schools you know work well is a risky move!

I relocated across the country five years ago, but now I’m married and have my spouse’s job to contend with. Probably would only relocate again if we both had good opportunities in the new place.

like

Yeah I think that’s quite common tbh. You have to do what’s right for everyone

At this point anywhere !!!!!

like

Ahah, that’s totally valid! Personally I’m such a home body, so it would take a lot for me to move from my family and friends

Right now, anywhere in the US for the right increase

That’s fair enough! Would you say that money is the most important factor for a job?

I wouldn’t

Wow thanks for the in depth help and advice ! Maybe elaborate??

funny

I relocated after i graduated college for my first job. Amazing experience but probs wouldnt move away from home again

At least you’ve learnt and now know you don’t want to do it! That’s why we all need to have these experiences

Almost went half way across the world because the money was too good to pass on. In the end, decided it wasn’t the right time for me to

Oh wow, that’s huge! Did it work out well in the end??

It honestly depends on what the opportunity is that I am offered. They would also have to be paying for my relocation expenses. Moving is super expensive.

That’s definitely something that’s never considered!! Or at least very rarely. The actual expensive of moving! It really is so pricey

It depends on the opportunity the role needs to be interesting and the money needs to be right.

100%. Especially if it means totally changing your life. Aka not being close to friends and family. There’s gotta be some good rewards from it!

Toronto banks: remote or not? They sometimes post jobs where it doesn’t say it’s remote, but no branch/ location/address either. Then you get an interview and they tell you it’s remote/hybrid(1-2-3days, take your pick)/on-site. So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?

Does anyone else have that one person who is more senior than you that is just always so condescending while adding no value themselves? I have a director who I work with (not in my direct mgmt line) that just treats everyone on my team so poorly, so I act as the shield and it’s so annoying how someone who is so disrespectful and honestly not super value-added only ask for data/questions and not provide any genuine input or recommendations.

Anyone on H1 quit and taken a year off? Planning to transfer to H4, and then start looking after a year. Current H1 is valid for another 2 years. Suggestion/experience welcomed!

Need a sanity check here.

When I joined my current company, we were on a quarterly bonus structure with guaranteed payouts each quarter. This was, in fact, how the recruiter said he could meet my salary request.

The company just announced we are moving to annual payouts only, with no payments for 2023 until May 2024. There are no raises happening.

This amounts to 12% less money in my pocket in 2023 plus inflation.

Is this standard, or should I be looking for opportunities elsewhere?

I applied to a job at KPMG and did the first two rounds of interviews, general interview, then case study and competency. Never before have I had such a positive feedback at the end of an interview of the 2nd, both said really like me, I did well etc.
It's now been 3 weeks since the interview and I still haven't heard back from the team other than the odd HR email saying they are following up with them. Is there something going on internally, I.e hiring freeze in the London office atm?
