How has the RTO pushback been in your workplace? It seems there's a new trend called coffee badging where employees pretty much just go into the office to get coffee and make small talk, maybe show their face to their boss, and then dip after that. Sounds pretty awesome to me but it definitely wouldn't work at our agency. What about yours?

Free badging isn’t new. It’s like a year old.

*coffee badging

I remember reading clickbait articles about coffee badging at least a year ago. And I suspect it's never really become the trend that these articles keep claiming. Perhaps in some enormous corporation that would work, but in most organizations if you're supposed to be there it'll be pretty obvious if you're not.

Omnicom started pinging our laptops to ensure we were in the office and connected to the office internet on top of badge swipes. There is no escape from RTO.

I was just reading this article last night. That sounds like a good way to pushback haha. Same with our agency - our group is too intimate and small for something like this to work.

We stayed somewhat flexible when RTO mandates started coming, ours were more at the beginning of last year. I know a lot of people that did that at the start, honestly you wouldn't have known the difference because everything was still done. So it did work at ours, and the company didn’t seem to mind so much.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

Just started in Biglaw as a first year - one of the partners made a passing remark that he couldn’t remember my PQE but thinks I’m “the same as X associate”. Went on LinkedIn and saw that X associate is a third year. How do I gently correct this misconception in a future conversation?

If you notice that a junior associate on your team has over-billed, how would you handle it? I don’t want to get them in trouble, but noticed that they billed extremely high numbers even though I was doing all they work on the deal and they completely disappeared other than for client conference calls. Certain things that they billed for on the final invoice, I alone handled and never asked them to do. Appreciate any advice. I’m a mid-level in case it helps for context.

At what point do you begin to feel numb (if ever) when you’re done trial and prepping for another trial in a span of 3 months, while mains full caseload of other active litigation cases? And can’t impose judgment one way or another either.
