I eliminate companies based on those reviews. If they seem job related, they hold weight. And I always sort negative first. A lot of the positive are company driven for new hires and can be fake. I also know I leave them about places I’ve worked or interviewed with especially the awful ones. Like my last job, I left reviews in every possible way I could think of because it was the second worst job I’ve ever had in my life. No one deserves what they put me through.
Thank you both for responding! Great tip on sorting negative reviews first.
I interviewed with a company with a 2.3 rating but was reluctant to accept their offer. Something just felt “off”. Turned out my reluctance paid off - not only this company offered 20k higher to my peer for the same exact role, the company was also investigated by the Feds a year later. So yeah. Take those reviews seriously.
Wow that’s crazy!! Thanks for sharing your story.

I use Glassdoor as one data point, but not the whole picture. I’d still interview and use it as a chance to ask thoughtful questions about culture, turnover, and management. Sometimes the rating is accurate, but sometimes it’s skewed by a few unhappy people.
Thanks for sharing. Love using the comments in Glassdoor to ask more pointed questions!

I’d say it’s important to look at which function the person reviewing works in. For example, a technician in the field will have a much different experience than someone in the finance department.
Great tip! I hadn’t thought of that before.
