How many times is it acceptable to try to follow up after an interview? I interviewed for a job I would be perfect for three weeks ago. Since then, I've sent four follow up emails. One initial thank you for your time email, and then an additional email each week. Should I send another follow up next week? I haven't heard anything back from any of these emails but the job is still listed on their website, so I know they haven't filled it yet.

I think you may have maxed out on follow-ups. If it's been three weeks and you haven't heard anything it's possible they're just slow walking everything and don't want to say that. Or they might just be ghosting you. Best approach would be to let it sit but stay very active applying elsewhere.

I would say two is the maximum. You have to be aware that they are getting those emails and getting multiples if they haven't responded is not likely to make them respond; in fact, sometimes it's the opposite. I would say two is enough and anything beyond that is overdoing it.

4 follow up emails are more than enough, I think.
If you have the recruiters number, you can text or call them for follow-up.

Three weeks is my cutoff time. If I’ve heard nothing back at all in the time, I just put a pin in it. Maybe one more after a couple of weeks. Not very promising, though, so not worth a ton more time in my opinion.

Fwiw…. One of the govt leads where I work has responsibility for hiring to her team. She has multiple open positions, and has done several rounds of interviews. However, she also is notoriously unable to make decisions or follow through on projects of any type — hiring actions included. She is also terribly slow (as in not at all most of the time) in reading all her work email and responding to it. I could easily see her not reading or responding to your follow-ups. As annoying as that might be, I would also tell you that it might not be such a bad thing, because actually having to work for her is a daily exercise in frustration for her entire team. Doesn’t matter what they produce or how well they do it, it lands on her desk and stays there. Eventually they get frustrated enough they find other places to work (80% vacancy rate in govt positions under her is not a coincidence). So, if you can’t get an answer back, it might be a blessing in disguise. You’ve made the effort, take some comfort in that and keep looking. It will pay off eventually. Good luck!

We have all wondered that many times. Sad part is that on a personal level she’s a very nice person, and would be a great teammate. Just does not have supervisor skills, and seems unable to learn them right now.

I always follow up after about a week and If I still don't hear back, I will follow up after another week. If I still don't hear back then I assume at that point, that I didn't get the role.

If had a person from HR contact for an interview you should have the contact number and call personally.

Hey wanted to check back in and see if you all can give me some data to help me for future interviews? I realize I may not be the right match but I really do want to work in this field. Is there something I might be missing? Maybe some education or experience that you would recommend?
