I get the point about how the company will be squeezing more work out of them. But I'd also look at the long game. The opportunity to be productive in a multilingual situation is pretty attractive. Being successful at producing finished work in that context will always be great experience to have on one's resume. And, if they need a job, they might as well take it and do some great work. Going forward they'll be set up beautifully for something more rewarding.

I completely agree with this. Take the quick win now. Make some money and parlay that into an opportunity in the future.
Pro
I would tell them to take the job with all the information and keep looking for one with compensation better fit for their skills. Take the money now while looking for something in the future.
This. If they've tried to negotiate already and been rebutted, the company is likely cheap to the point of being inflexible on this, no matter how stupid that is of them. Take the money now, apply elsewhere, and get out of there as soon as a better offer is in hand.
Does your friend have any other offers and do they have a job currently? This is a really tough job market to be hunting for a job in so if they don't have a job and need one with no other offers I would probably advise them to take it. Otherwise I would keep looking.
