How's everyone on the design side of things feeling about job opportunities these days? I got laid off last September, and finding a job has been feeling impossible lately. I kept telling myself it's because it's a bad time of the year to apply, and I hope that's true. In general, does it feel like there are fewer design gigs out there, or is it just me?

Applied 9/1 and on the applicant portal the status still says “in progress.” I got a great internal referral, but I’ve not reached out to the hiring manager. 😬 I know there were a few hundred applicants — what’s a realistic timeline and what could I say to the hiring manager if I reach out to them.
