I am a young staff accountant with 2 YOE. I am good at my job. I make around $58k and I see no-experience staff starting in the mid to high 60s. I inquired about raise/market adjustment. My manager said they "rarely do that". He agrees that I deserve one and will escalate the request but mainly pivoted to training me for a promotion to senior- only $10k over their starting staff role. Is this normal? Should I be job searching?! Any advice appreciated!

I would focus on continuing to do well and get promoted so you can get the raise you want. It’ll be difficult to jump to another firm as a senior without the current title. Don’t worry about the money - you’ll make much more over your career if you continue to do well and move up.

That is how it went for me. I went to my boss last year and asked for a raise, and she escalated the request. She also encouraged me to train for promotions to work my way up.

A couple of my thoughts. It's hard to get a raise without some kind of justification. And saying you want to be paid more because other people are paid more is a bad way to sell it to the higher ups. Makes total sense to me but isn't really compelling for them. The promotion approach is a good path forward if you stick around.

I would think long term. 10k sounds like a lot now, but I wouldn't jump for that unless a lot of other things were also true. Jumping ever 3 years is often the best way to get pay increase but it has downsides.

I started in my first SDR position in a small SaaS start up few months ago. I am the only SDR and their first ever.
The base salary is ok but I haven’t received any commission structure up to this day.
I book an average of 3-5 demos per week. People always show up, but the thing that worries me is that I do not have a way to track how many meetings I book in our CRM,and to be honest I feel like I didn’t get the best training overall. Should I start looking somewhere else? Thoughts?
