I think they did you a favor. What's the point of a title if it doesn't mean more money? Especially because there's no standardization of titles across companies. It was probably a blessing in disguise, and sometimes rejection is the blessing.

Keep your hourly job, cover those shifts and get overtime. Blessing in disguise that you didn’t get the position, especially if it’s more work and no extra pay.

That is the classic more responsibility, same pay trap. Covering shifts without the title is fine occasionally, but when it becomes expected, that is just free labor wrapped in opportunity language. Sometimes not getting the title forces you to see what the role really looks like from the outside.

Absolutely, sometimes a rejection is a blessing in disguise. Taking on more responsibility without real support or pay can burn you out fast. Titles don’t always match the reality of the work, and avoiding that trap can save a lot of stress down the line.
