Stop complaining, other side to this, he could also not have you do it and do everything himself and you'd get zero experience or very little diversity. Perhaps this is something that is repeated often though by same manager...

Depends. I've given tasks to my reports knowing that it's not in their normal responsibilities or comfort zone. It's an opportunity for them to learn on the job, ok to make mistakes, and with someone to give them guidance. Sometimes I'll even parallel the work so if the attempt fails so badly or they get completely lost - I can still show an example and deliver on time to the client.
This was clearly a toss over the fence activity - I'm not new to my job or the task. You should call a spade a spade and not try to fake a desire to develop someone on some mundane activity.
I'd say that they were trying to increase my performance but they met me last week and none of my ratings suggest I need to refine this particular area.
I see where you are coming from now. Being assigned/sold work as an opportunity for growth when it's simply a rudimentary task is annoying.
Why are you upset at the situation though? Does the manager suck and that's why you are doing the work or are just upset at getting more work?
