I don’t think the gender matters so much as the first dog having a new one in her home. She might feel displaced because of dynamics changing much like gaining another sibling. Size might play into it as well. A meet and greet is a good idea to see how they at least interact in a short time
Adult dogs instinctively understand puppies in my experience. We always had an older dog (4-7 yrs) and then a pup. Those adult dogs sure do know how to manage the pup. It looks aggressive but it’s not. It’s interesting to watch. Our dog is 4 and we’re almost ready to get another pup.
In my experience gender generally does not matter if your dogs are spayed/neutered. What does matter is if they respond well to each other. I’ve always gotten my dogs from the rescue. I take my current dog in, let them meet other dogs and see if any of them click. The best doggie pals are the ones they choose themselves.
Is your dog ever around other dogs? If so are they fine? Then they should be fine with whatever breed. I'm a big fan of adopting and doing meet and greets.
