I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

What’s the most unprofessional thing you’ve seen in a deposition recently?

Is it just me or does anyone else think it looks unprofessional and sloppy when pleadings/motions/briefs are left-aligned, not justified? Also, who still uses two spaces after sentences? That's a peeve I would never want as a pet.

My contract is close to ending with a verbal offer on table to stay for 30k. I am looking for something more techanical in the engineering field that matched my abilities more. Thoughts on states taxing student loan forgiveness as income ? I admit I don’t know much about tax law but I feel like it shouldn’t be considered income unless they’re sending out checks to everyone. 10k off the balance of my loan shouldn’t be considered income.
