Man I haven’t been madly in love in a long time. Congrats 🎉
^ Oooookaayyy, super helpful man.
@Havas 1. Post isn’t helpful, but I recognize your concern. I’m marrying her and we chose North Carolina to get away from the city and start a family...
From NC here. Your toughest part will be landing the job at these agencies. Since there are only 5-8 shops doing good regional / national work (depending on your standards), people get there and tend to stay. That means only 5-10 potential ad strat roles in all of North Carolina. Yes, you read that correctly. Make good connections, push hard and, um, pray? Personality and fit are highly valued, as well. “No jerks” is taken seriously in the South. Anyway, best of luck ... might also be looking in-house. Somewhere like a Deloitte in Charlotte or IBM In the Research Triangle. Please reach out with any Q’s!
The Variable is in Winston-Salem!
Man, this is so beautiful!
Wish I was a CD and still saw the beauty in this. I'm here thinking the op is a sucker getting pulled to a city they know nothing about by a fire that will be out before the ink on the lease is dry.
McKinney’s in Durham.
Winston-Salem also has mullenlowe
Consult. Do what you can remotely, shore up your contacts now. There’s plenty of small businesses that need guidance and you have the skills to help synthesize a plan for them. Asheville is exploding. Home to hipsters and retirees. Find a sweet spot and build some turn key tools - just know that these will be 4 or 5 figure scopes and you’ll have to hustle hard for awhile to get established. You can partner with a designer in town and create something really cool.
Crushed that there are no agencies in Asheville.
Congrats on falling in love. All the best to you. That’s way more important than advertising. ✨💕🎉
Hit up Mollie at MullenLowe in Winston Salem
Worked at McKinney for a few years. It’s a agency that use to be great. It’s extremely traditional as are all the other agencies in NC. Really nice people work there but they are TV first with no digital or social. Baldwin& is the only one that does work that’s worth talking about. If you can move one more state down, than EP+Co will be your best bet or Martin Agency. Mullen Lowe in Winston gets all the boring clients in their network.
Outside of traditional agency work, there are a ton of great start digital shops. Google has invested a ton of money in startup incubators in the Durham area.
Havas 1 So serious.. life’s too short let the kids have some fun!
Thank you all so much for your support and help! I truly appreciate your information and can’t thank you all enough!
McKinney in Durham, Baldwin& in Raleigh and BooneOakley in Charlotte are the only ones worthwhile. Raleigh native here.
PS — I’ve thought about this a lot. If you want to make yourself open to working in either the Triad or the Triangle, move to Burlington / Mebane /Hillsborough
Baldwin& in Raleigh.
Most of the agencies in NC are pretty traditional....
