What’s required to make the jump from Finance to Tech (say Google, LinkedIn, etc…) in the Bay Area? Thinking specifically for people who are currently senior analysts/associates and on Buy-side. I’m currently a portfolio strategy/business development associate and the thought has crossed my mind often.

Coming out of UG, I accepted my first job b/c I thought I had to based on status of other interviews. I ended up quitting after 8 weeks in favor of an opportunity I perceived to be better, but took longer to get. 7 months into the new gig, I am NOT happy. Considering this is technically my second job out of school, how long should I stick around before trying to leave without looking like a total scumbag opportunist?

I joined a later stage startup as a corporate strategy “manager”. I put manager in quotes as there’s no one else in strategy. It was fun the first 6 months when I helped raise equity and create an initial 5 year plan, but for the past 2-3 months I’ve been essentially doing FP&A work. I am an Associate in Corporate Cash Management filling in for pat leave. The person is expecting to return in Sept.

There is no guarantee that I can keep this job. So I want to explore what options I have if they don’t decide to keep me.
