Bowl Leader
I would take it as them feeling inferior and threatened by you. Incompetent ego-driven leaders only like obedient low risk high performers. I would start your own business or work for someone who knows your worth.
Art Director1 is spot on!
Years ago, I was told the exact same thing. The company hired some folks for the roles, but because they were more about flash than substance, I can say for certain that these developers were poorly managed, The whole company was poorly managed by that shallow approach. As a result, they had to keep changing their business model --- but within a short period of time. So, all the devs left.
Then, guess who came in for another round of interviews for a higher level dev role? It was a new IT manager, so they hired me this time. It was a bit overwhelming, carrying the load for a bunch of devs that jumped ship in the midst of so much change. As soon as I was ahead of my deadlines (actually, by 2.5 months), I proactively created a Proof of Concept to help steer and mold their online marketing and advertising using external and internal data. I presented. Got the sign off from everyone but the owners. I was T-1 day from presenting, but they decided very suddenly one night, instead, to sell the entire company. Everyone but a few folks to help package everything up for the buyers (under Warren Buffet) to grab the brand.
Too little, too late.
If it hurts they that were uncool enough to actually tell you were not cool enough, but it's proof they needed you more than you needed them. It just doesn't feel that way now because in this moment for you, the stakes are high.
Focus on how to flip things to your advantage in your job search and stay in touch here. You've got this, and we're rooting for you!
And guess who used the model I was about to propose? Yep! They buyers! They actually had something very similar already in place.
I’ve been told I seem too nice for positions before. Which really pisses me off because of course I’m going to be nice during the interview. Do men get this kind of feedback?
